Poetry Book

For many women who left Uganda as young girls or mothers with little children, the Expulsion by

Idi Amin left an indelible impression on their minds.

This collection of poems is written by women from Leicester who worked with me, to put their feelings into verse, as part of Navrang’s project Rebuilding Lives: 50 years of Ugandan Asians in Leicester.

The Creative Writing workshops were held at Belgrave library and brought back fond memories of childhood, as well as the emotions of loss and grief at leaving behind a beloved country where they belonged.

The unique identity of Ugandan Asians in Leicester is reflected in these poems.
