The Rebuilding Lives Project

The Project Objectives:

  • To tell the stories of Ugandan Asians and their expulsion. Their move to UK and life fifty years on, through engaging individuals/ communities in discussing and telling their stories.
  • To mark the 50th anniversary of the arrival of Ugandan Asians in Leicester and celebrate the impact they have had on the city they made their home.
  • To demonstrate the positive impacts a refugee community can have on a place they seek refuge in.
  • To record and capture the lived experiences of expelled Ugandan Asians and make these oral histories available as archival and educational resources.
